Quick Overview

Mira is IsoTek’s dedicated high definition LCD, CRT, Plasma, HDTV and projector power center. Mira is also able to offer enhanced performance for primary electronics in the system. Its carefully chosen component parts and relatively generous proportions allow for an optimum design and functionality.

Additional Information

Features

On the top of the Mira you will notice two dedicated sockets, one for display devices labelled ‘Visual Outlet’ and the other ‘Component Outlet’. The Visual outlet should be used for display devices such as TVs and projectors, etc. and the Component socket for a set-top box, DVD player, etc. There is no danger to equipment if inadvertently the wrong socket is used, however, full performance will not be achieved. Therefore it is important to ensure correct connection.

Not only does the Mira offer protection for display devices and components, but it also offers a full aerial protection system, connected using 75-ohm F connectors. The incoming coaxial cable should be connected to the Mira, and a short length of similar cable to the television equipment. The cable from the wall socket to the Mira must be of the 3-pin plug type, for example, it MUST have earth. Two pin plug types will disconnect the protection circuit.

Visual Outlet
A television and other display devices suffer corruption of their picture information from two main sources. The more obvious is from the immense quantity of spurious signals and noises on the mains electrical supply. Less obvious is the television or display device itself as a polluter. While display devices have to be made to a price point, this often results in minimum standards, as it is expensive to fully pursue silencing of the television or the display device power supply.

The IsoTek Mira uses unique proprietary technology in the form of a triple resonant absorbing filter, used for Mira's visual outlet. This filter is very similar to a motorcar shock absorber and most unlike typical filters. This technology is possible as a television’s power supply noise is very specific and thus predicable. The absorber soaks up this energy exactly as if smoothing a rough road. There is an additional shunt filter added to this circuit which further mops up any random ripples. This auto adjusts to the power requirements of any television or display device and gives enhanced performance, as it is specific to the power use, and not just that of a guessed maximum load. Other devices on the market will be designed to the maximum potential which is often inappropriate for most devices used.

Component Outlet
This outlet is connected to the mains supply via an industry standard Delta filter. This special type of shunt filter is able to absorb the two types of mains electrical noise, these being ‘differential noise’ and ‘common mode noise’. Differential noise (out of phase noise) is typically caused by sparking switches and/or various distribution problems (storms). Common mode noise (in phase noise) is usually caused by radio transmitters. The Mira features a high performance version of this well-known circuit.

How Mira works
The IsoTek Mira works in the following way:  the triple resonant filter increases the perception of white in the picture. This enhances contrast and color purity. For DVD players it prevents confusing information corrupting the digital information (jitter). Audio quality is improved in terms of harshness as high frequencies are freed from the burden of suppressing ultrasonic noise. The Delta filter improves black levels by removing the more randomized noise, this is usually perceived as mist. It is very possible that the television will need adjusting to fully appreciate this improvement. Sonically the sound will have greater clarity, surround effects will be perceived at a lower sound level. Depth and nuances will be noticeably better.

As can be anticipated the combined effect of these complimentary filters is to cover from low to high level (black to white). Specifically color is much better defined, depth of image is also greater (black levels). Bursts of white light become more dramatic, a delight of the modern medium.

Protection
Filtering is not only relevant, it even has the same name. Just as polluted oil is not good for a motorcar, polluted mains electricity is not good for any electronic device. For display devices such as televisions, high voltage spikes are removed by Mira, while these are seldom fatal, they do erode components, especially in the power supplies. Should danger levels reach an extreme, Mira will completely and permanently switch itself off. Should this occur, return the unit to IsoTek and be happy that your equipment was fully protected! This, thankfully, is a rare event.

Soft Start
The Mira has a soft start facility with extra protection. Without these devices, highly destructive surges occur at switch on. These often shorten the life of components and a device’s natural life span.

Aerial Protection
Voltages of as much as 90 volts are enough to light a neon lamp at 6 miles (10 km) from an electrical storm. This interesting fact was given in the early days of television as a warning. To protect devices connected via aerial, Mira offers superior protection by shunting to ground voltages above 33 volts.
